NSDA Heart of Texas District Tournament Invitation and Information

Dear Colleagues:

You and your squad are cordially invited to attend the National Speech and Debate Association Heart of Texas District Tournament on Friday, March 22nd and Saturday, March 23rd, 2024. This year, the Heart of Texas District Tournament will be held in person at Hendrickson High School. This tournament allows students to qualify for the NSDA National Tournament to be held in Des Moines, IA in June.

If you would like to participate in our district tournament, as a member of our district, and have not yet joined NSDA as an affiliate, we urge you to do so immediately. You will find the necessary forms online at: https://www.speechanddebate.org/join/

Your school must become a member of our district, and you must enter your students' points at least seven business days prior to the district tournament. Please keep in mind that our district tournament (and nearly every member of the district) is located in the Austin area.

For current members of the Heart of Texas District, please fill out the District School Entry Form and email it to Kirsten Nash at: kirsten.nash@pfisd.net. The District School Entry Form is also available in the Forms Tab when you start the registration process for the tournament. TOURNAMENT DATES:
Friday, March 22nd: Congress, Extemp, Interp, and Debate
Saturday, March 23rd: Individual Events and Debate

DEADLINES:
Friday, March 15th: Final event entry due (8:00 PM)
Monday, March 18th: Official entry forms and paperwork with signatures due (8:00 PM)
Tuesday, March 19th: Drop deadline (8:00 PM)

TOURNAMENT ADMINISTRATION:
We will be using NSDA evidence rules. Coaches and competitors are expected to familiarize themselves with these rules. The NSDA requires two individuals to audit each event round by round. Thus, we will utilize coaches to run events, so at least one coach from each participating school must be available for duty in the tab room. Tabulation and other tournament administration assignments will be determined by the district committee and sent out prior to the tournament. Please understand that the tab room is CLOSED during this tournament. Students may not see their ballots and may not know their results until the entire school's entries have been eliminated from the tournament. Schools caught violating this rule risk disqualification from the tournament.

PAYMENT:
DO NOT MAIL YOUR CHECK. BRING IT WITH YOU TO THE TOURNAMENT ON FRIDAY. REMEMBER, "CHECK IS IN THE MAIL, OR HERE IS THE P.O. AND THE CHECK HAS DEFINITELY BEEN REQUESTED" DOES NOT WORK AT NSDA DISTRICT TOURNAMENTS (NSDA'S RULE, NOT OURS). YOU MUST HAVE YOUR CHECK ON FRIDAY FOR YOUR STUDENTS TO COMPETE. YOU MUST ALSO HAVE YOUR OUTSTANDING BALANCE WITH NSDA PAID OFF BEFORE YOUR STUDENTS COMPETE. THIS IS NON-NEGOTIABLE.
